Inquiring Minds Want to Know…

What is, “The Walk” to Emmaus? Luke 24:13-35 tells the story of two disciples on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus the afternoon of Christ’s resurrection. As they were walking, Jesus came and walked with them. The two men were so preoccupied with their own feelings about the previous days’ events, that they didn’t recognize their Risen Lord. As they walked, Jesus explained to them the reasons for these events. Once they arrived in Emmaus, their eyes were opened by Jesus when He “took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them…”

These two disciples immediately returned to Jerusalem to share their encounter with their Risen Lord with their friends and fellow disciples in Christ. “They learned to walk in the spirit of Jesus, to proclaim the gospel to a disbelieving world, and to persevere in grace through spiritual companionship with one another.”

“The Walk to Emmaus offers today’s disciples [each and every one of us] a parallel opportunity to rediscover Christ’s presence in their lives, to gain fresh understanding of God’s transforming grace, and to form friendships that foster faith and support spiritual maturity. While Emmaus provides a pathway to the mountaintop of God’s love, it also supports the pilgrim’s return to the world in the power of the Spirit to share the love they have received with a hurtful and hurting world.”

If you are interested in attending an Emmaus Walk, please feel free to talk with any of the members of our church who have attended this wonderful three-day experience and check for walk dates at http://www.dallasemmaus.org

There is another program under the parenthood of The Walk to Emmaus called Chrysalis. This is a youth and young adult program for those who are between adolescence and adulthood. Chrysalis “Flights” is for those who are in the 10th through 12th grades, and “Journeys” is for those young adults from ages 19-24. Chrysalis, similar to the caterpillars’ transformation into a beautiful butterfly, provides the essential spiritual growth that is so important during this time of transformation from being an adolescent into a youth, and finally into a young adult.
