Summer 2018

June 18, 2018

Dear Good Shepherd family member,

Did you know that there are roughly 2,350 verses concerning money in the Bible? That’s almost twice as many as verses about faith and prayer combined. Jesus had a lot to say about money:
  • Nearly 15% of everything Jesus spoke about related to money and possessions
16 out of his 38 parables dealt with the topic of money
  • The only subject Jesus taught more about than money was the Kingdom of God
  • The Scriptures are very clear about a deep connection between a person’s spiritual life, attitudes, and actions concerning money and possessions.
We are in the midst of summer, a time which places the greatest demand on our budget while is typicallythe lowest giving time of the year. To date our deficit has reached over $9,000.00, so now is the time for our church to make sure the resources and support for ministry are available to further God’s kingdom.
You may well ask “Why should I decide to give?”
Because we give in gratitude for what God has done. “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” ~Colossians 3:17

Christian Stewardship reminds us that our gifts are not our own, that we merely have a trusteeship over them, not an ownership. To give some portion back to God through the ministries of the church, to give to those in need, to give away some portion because so many have less than us, is a way of expressing directly our thanksgiving to God for these gifts. As each of us became a part of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, we promised God that we would faithfully participate in the ministry of the Church by our prayers, presence, gifts, and service.

For those of us who give and serve, but who may not be formal members, we too are called to faithfully share in the life of love and service at Good Shepherd.

Your gifts matter! If you are currently giving, please consider an extra gift.
If you have never given or only give occasionally, please prayerfully consider what you can give financially to insure our church continues to proclaim Christ in Lucas, Texas.

Blessings upon you all for all you are in Christ and all you do to serve Him.
