What We Believe:

John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

Our Local Church History:

Dec. 4, 1893: First Worship Service held in Winningkoff School.

April 22, 1896: First worship held in Blythe Chapel Methodist Church at
Winningkoff.

 1920s: Second church building

1930-40s: Going to church was by horse and buggy on dirt roads.

1945: Winningkoff has a school, church, a blacksmith, and a drug store.

1947: Lucas has a population of 100, two stores, a gin, a school, a public softball field, and two churches.

1953: Lavon Dam was completed, and water covers part of Winningkoff.

1967: Church building moved to Lucas as the First United Methodist Church of Lucas.

April 13, 1980: First worship service in the new Sanctuary.

1995: New parsonage built.

June 24, 2007: Church votes to change the name to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church

Oct. 10, 2010: Burning of the Mortgage

Dec. 21, 2014: Pavillion Dedication

January 2016: Concrete parking lot finished.

January 30, 2023: New Fellowship Center construction is complete, and the City of Lucas issues an Occupancy permit.
